چکیده

We present here space-based VLBI observations with VSOP and a southern hemisphere ground array of the gamma-ray blazar NRAO 530 at 1.6 GHz and 5 GHz. The brightness temperature of the core at 1.6 GHz is 5 × 10 K. The size is near the minimum observable value in the direction of NRAO 530 due to interstellar scattering. The 5 GHz data show a single component with a brightness temperature of ∼ 3 × 10 K, significantly in excess of the inverse Compton limit and of the equipartition brightness temperature limit (Readhead 1994). This is strong evidence for relativistic motion in a jet requiring model-dependent Doppler boosting factors in the range 6 to 60. We show that a simple homogeneous sphere probably does not model the emission region accurately. We favor instead an inhomogeneous jet model with a Doppler boosting factor of 15. The compact core - jet region of the superluminal quasar 3 C 216

Space very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observations of the quasar 3C 216 with the VLBI Space Observatory Programme (VSOP) reveal that the parsec scale structure of the source can be well described by compact jet models developed for interpreting the core region of radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGN). The measured brightness temperature of TB = 7.9 × 10 11 K is comparable to the inve...

The quasar 3 C 345 at the highest resolution with mm - and space - VLBI

The quasar 3C 345 is one of the best examples of extra-galactic jet with superluminal components moving on helical paths. To get better constraints on the jet physics, we have imaged the source at the highest possible resolution, using mm-VLBI and space-VLBI observations. We observed 3C 345 at 5 different epochs so far (1 epoch with 3-mm ground VLBI, and 4 epochs with space VLBI at 6 cm and 18 ...

Space - VLBI observations of the twisted jet in 3 C 395

We present Space-VLBI observations of the quasar 3C 395 which show evidence of the existence of a large bend in the inner parts of its jet, close to the core. This bend would explain why previous Earth-based cm-VLBI observations could not detect the ejection of new moving components, as expected from flux density variability in this source. In general, the observational properties of the jet in...

EVN , MERLIN , and VLA Observations of NRAO 530

Abstract. We present images of NRAO530 observed with the EVN (VLBI) at 5 GHz, the MERLIN at 1 .6 and 5 GHz, and the VLA at 5 and 8 GHz showing the complex morphology on scales from pc to kpc. The VLBI image shows a core-jet structure indicating a somehow oscillation trajectory on a scale of 30 mas, north to the strongest compact component (core). A core-jet structure extended to several hundred...

Multi - Frequency VLBI Observations of NRAO 530

We report on VLBA observations of a γ-ray bright blazar NRAO 530 at multiple frequencies (5, 8, 15, 22, 39, 43, and 45 GHz) in 1997 and 1999. These multi-epoch multi-frequency high-resolution VLBI images exhibit a consistent coredominated morphology with a bending jet to the north of the core. The quasi-simultaneous data observed at five frequencies (5, 8, 15, 22 and 43 GHz) in February 1997 en...
